Instant Style: The Scarf

A scarf is an instant style update to almost
any outfit.

My own collection span about 50-60 different
scarves, from designer items to must haves
from the High street.

I am in love with this purple/black/white one
I just bought for my fall wardrobe.

How the Celebs wear it

Miss Bilson is the queen of scarves. She always
work this accessory very well, from huge drapings
around the neck to lovely loose hanging silk scarves.

Kate Hudson brings life to her white dress by adding a
colorful blue silk scarf. Diane Kruger pumps up a
casual jean look with this white and black scarf
from (can you believe it)H&M.

Jumpsuit: French Connection
Belt: Vintage YSL
Scarf: Vero Moda
Bangles: Vintage
Shoes: Aerosols
Handbag: Zara

I love a great scarf, it can make a outfit look like a million dollars. Its such an easy way to accessories an outfit, weather it is a dress or a casual jeans look. For fall, I am into colors like purple, black & white, green and mustard yellow. The high street has a great selection, and I just picked up the scarf Diane Kruger is wearing. Supposedly it sold out in a few days, after she was spotted wearing it, however they still have many other great ones as well as Forever21, Topshop and Asos.

Under The Norwegian Sun

Inspiration for the shot: Japanese girls
running all over the city with umbrellas to
avoid the strong sun. Quite clever I think.

The dress is the (new) vintage dress from
the same seller as I got the Oscar de la Renta
scarf, and I could not be more happy about it.

The dress was a steal of ebay and perfect
for a hot summer evening.

Remember when Carrie wore that white
umbrella in an Episode of SATC? I must say
I loved that look, so when I got this umbrella
for one of my Bachelorette parties last year,
I was very happy. Such a fun look.

Dress: Vintage from TheRooVintage
Shoes: Creative from ebay
Belt: Old studs from Lindex
Bracelet: Vintage
Umbrella: Gift
Sunnies: Oliver Peoples
Blir mange kjoler i denne varmen,

This is the vintage dress I bought from the same seller as the Oscar de la Renta scarf. And of course I love it! The colors, the fit and the huge skirt, perfect for a I am sorry all of my last posts have been about dresses, but its so hot here, I cant really imagine wearing anything else. Just wanted to have some fun with the umbrella, hope you enjoy it!

Jovovich-Hawk Summer Collection

Jean Wrap dress 475 dollars at netaporter

Wrap top, 190 dollars at netaporter.

Dress on sale for 212 dollars at netaporter

Silk Jumpsuit on sale for 262 dollars at netaporter

For vintage lovers: Gunne Sax at Sleepyheadvintage

I love the Jovovich-Hawk collections. Maybe its because they remind me so much of real vintage pieces. Take the blue dress, is that not something you could find while thrifthing? Of course, that is not for everybody and last night somebody asked me what the next best thing was. My answer is to buy individual pieces that go well with each other. If you buy expensive, be sure that the items are of good quality and dont buy "trend" items. When I look through the sales I always buy the basics(tshirts, underwear, jeans) or one or two expensive items that I know will stand the test of time. For example, all of the pieces I have picked out here, are things you can use now, throughout a part of fall and next summer. My favorite is the polkadot top and the blue dress, which sadly are not on sale. I would wear the dresses for fall with a cardigan and a belted waist. What do you think?

Hot in The City

The dress my mum got me as a gift. My
husband thought it matched the flowers.

My mum said it looked like a dress she had in the 70s, and
perfect for the Riviera. Now, Oslo might not be the same, but
yesterday was close enough in temperature. Its so
hot, its difficult to know what to wear.

We found the dress in a store were I usually
never shop. I was amazed that they would
carry something like it. The best part, the
price, at 10 dollars. Quite the bargain and
a wonderful gift!

I am a sucker for dresses, they always put
me in a good mood. I love the pattern of this
dress, the colors and the tie belt.
The white wedges I wore the other night,
gave me the most horrible blisters, so I had
to wear some shoes that would not do any more damage.
We had the best massages at Dragonfly, a must if you ever
visit Oslo. Afterwards I was spaced out...

Dress: Kappahl
Shoes: Oasis
Handbag: Zara
Sunnies: H&M
Bracelets: Vintage & H&M
Håper dere hygger dere i sommervarmen!
So, this is the dress my mum got me and I could not love it more. I do think it has a 70s element in the print. The temperature here is insane, so only light cotton will do. I am enjoying it (and my last week of vacation) to the fullest. Yesterday we got massages(I will do a separate post on Dragonfly, since its one of my favorites)and went out for some Cajun dinner afterwards. It was a perfect day. Today, I have been to the beach with a friend and soaked up the sun. Hope you are having a great weekend!

Same Dress, Different Shoes

I love my vintage dresses. This one I bought
of ebay for a steal, earlier this spring.

We were meeting some friends at the marina,
Aker Brygge, which is the place to go for late
night drinks in the evening, if you ever visit Oslo.

Dress: Vintage
Shoes: Bianco
Handbag: Chanel
Bracelet: Vintage

One of the reasons to enjoy drinks down here, is the view.
The yellow boat seen in the back, will take you out to all
of the islands, were you can visit museums or just enjoy
the Norwegian nature.

Its always crowded, but we got a table after
20 minutes, so it was not to bad. We enjoyed our drinks at
TGI Fridays(strawberry daiquiri for me) well into the night,
which turned out to be the hottest night here in Oslo, so far
this summer.

And I had to share with you one of my latest ebay finds.
An Oscar de la Renta skarf in purple. Perfect for fall and
a steal from a great ebay seller The Roo Vintage where
I also found the most amazing dress, which I will post
later on.

Last night was such a fun night. We went down to the Marina for drinks & to meet up with old and new friends. It was probably the hottest night so far this summer in Oslo, so we enjoyed it buy having drinks at the waterfront. I had a lovely time and met some very nice people. I got two complimets on my dress that I will cherish for a long time. Ine, this fantastic and lovely girl we got to know, told me she had been admiring my dress the whole evening. Another girl told me I looked like Carrie in Satc! How wonderful was that?
Today I am eating strawberries on the porch and enjoying the sun. Later me and my husband will go and have massages and dinner, so its bound to be a marvelous day.
Thank you all so much for your lovely comments on my 70s post, I am so happy you all liked it!

In Love with the 70s

My favorite blue maxidress from the 70s
Ali Macgraw in Ossie Clark. One of my
favorites and probably one of Sharon Rose
as well, a beloved Ossie Clark collector.

The shirtdress, perfect for this summers safari looks.
Yves Saint Laurent with his models in the 70s. He
created womens tuxedo and is also known for the safari
style.

A dress of this caliber seldom comes a long,
a tresure in my closet.

Ali Macgraw and Love Story are classics of the 70s. I
will watch this film when I am in need of inspiration.

Lady in red. A favorite because of its cape
and color.
Halston and Bianca Jagger ruled the
70s and studio54.

As an avid collector of vintage
dresses, my dream is to own a
Halston dress from the 70s. A YSL
dress is also high upon my list.
This blue dream of a YSL 70s dress is
from Decades, but sold. But they often
post great 70s vintage items.

You can not really mention the 70s without
Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourgh. They were
such a classy couple of this area.
I truly feel that the originals can never be replaced.
A vintage item is worth so much more to me than
a sweater from H&M. Why? Its unique and an
original, nothing beats that. That being said, I
enjoyed Gerard Darels fall collection. It is a pleasure for the
eye. I love the widelegs, flower blouses and orange
platform shoes.
I have been a true fan of the 70s as long as I can remember. It all started with my mother, who was a model and a designer at that time. As a results, all mine and her clothes were made by her and originals. The 70s was a fun time in fashion. Colors, patterns and high heeled platform shoes, were just some of the favorites that women all over the world were wearing. The flower and floral trends are as fantastic to me now as it was then. Growing up, all I knew was this way of dressing and I counted my blessings, because I was so lucky to have my mothers closet to use as dress up when the girls came over. Her closet housed amazing cords pants, widelegged jeans, dresses and skirts, and the most amazing 70s wedding dress. It was white maxi dress, with brown and orange flowers and it fitted perfectly with my dads brown velvet suit. With so many dresses, she was always the talk of the party. Looking back as these pictures, if I was in my 20s in the 70s, I would have loved to go dancing at studio54, in my blue dress with my husband.
Hope you enjoyed this!

Blue Sky

Sometimes the most simple things in life are the best.
Like this wonderful blue dress or a late night swim in the sea.

or the clear blue skies at sunset.

For hot days, I find cotton dresses to be best, as they
protect some against the heat. This one I just picked up
at H&M for 10 dollars. Quite the bargain I think.

I cant think of a better view when you go late night
swimming.

Photos: Margrethe, 8 years old
Dress: H&M
Sunnies: Oliver Peoples
Shoes: Havaianas

These are the best flip flops in the world. I love my new
metallic pink ones, which was a gift from my friend Elissa.

One of my favorite things about summer, is a late night swim. Since I dont have any children myself, I often borrow my good friends little one, as an excuse to go swimming. Of course they have long since seen through this scam, but me and Margrethe(8 years old) always have such a great time together. She is a fast learner, so when I suggested she could take my outfit pictures, she was all game. And I think she did a pretty awesome job! The dress is one of the things I got on my last sale shopping spree and it has the most beautiful blue color. The sunset? Free of charge.

Akris Fall Collection 2008

Beautiful grey coat

Belted waist

Long Scarves

Layers

Photos: Style

I know we still are enjoying summer, but let me point your attention to Akris Fall collection. Whats not to like about this sleek and sophisticated collection? I love the muted colors, the sleek lines, the acentuated waists and the long scarves. The simplicity and minimalist attitude of designer Albert Kriemler, is perfect for any fall wardrobe. Cashmere and other luxorius fabric will keep you warm, edgy and sophisticated for fall. Cant wait to put my own spin on it. Have a great monday everyone!

Norwegian Summer- Rainy Days

Even though it is raining, I usually always
go for a walk in the summer.

The key is to be both stylish and practical,
so you dont get wet. A raincoat and rain
boots are a must in every wardrobe.

Raincoat: From the 50s
Rainboots: Økonomi sko
Tshirt: Gina Tricot
Shorts: Bought in a store in California

One of the things I love most about the Norwegian summer, is its marvelous beauty. Yeasterday was a heavy rainy day, but today it has changed again. Its not sunny, but it is light skies and warm weather. Maybe perfect for some shopping or a swim in the sea? And I did not really mean to complaine about my summer wardrobe, as I love it dearly. I was just in need of some new inspiration and some small additions to my overfilled closet. Dont you just love that orange raincoat from the 50s? I know I do.

Where Did the Sun Go?

Photos: Instyle

Woke up this morning and its pouring rain. So, I have decided to spend the day indoors looking for inspiration for different summer looks. I am getting a little bored with my summerwardrobe(that always happens ) so yeasterday I hit the sales and got some great bargains. My mum(who ruled the 70sfashion scene) got me a 70s inspired summer dress, in a lovely print. I myself, picked up two long cardigans(black &grey) for 15 dollars. The dress can be worn with the cardigans for fall, so my fall wardrobe is all in the making. I also went thrifting and found some great deals. On top of it all I ordered some stuff on ebay, so I have been busy shopping lately. Not much, but key items that will make a difference in my wardrobe. Came over these photos while looking for some new inspiration to wear some of my summer wardrobe. Love Nickys Jumpsuit(dress?)in paysley pattern, Lauren Conrads fringed shoes and Sophia Bushs blue dress(although I myself would have worn it with a belt). And yes, I am aware that they all wear blue. You see, not only do I love the color, but I most certainly got the blues in this weather.. Happy sunday everyone! PS outfit pictures will be posted later this evening.

Norwegian Summer- Part Two

Black & White has always been a staple
in my wardrobe. Its so versatile and you
can always count on it to save you in a case
of fashion emergency.

Sometimes I find the most amazing deals
in the weirdest places. This bag was discovered
by my friends daughter in the H&M childrens
department, and was a steal at 3 dollars.

Dont be fooled by the sun, it was actually
freezing here.

A long cardigan is a great investment piece for fall.
I will get another grey and black one to wear with
my flower dresses.

I think I am having a love affair with polkadots this summer.
Believe me when I say it is as suprising to me, as I have liked
the trend before, but now I simply love it. Bikini purchased
on sale for 12 dollars at H&M.

Jean shorts: Old Levis cut offs
Singlet: H&M
Cardigan: Gina Tricot
Shoes: H&M
Sunnies: Gina Tricot
Bikini: H&M

Norwegian Summer- Part one

Into the Norwegian Woods in style

I love my accessories

Shoes: Bianco, Cape: Ebay, Sunnies: Gina Tricot

In the Norwegian woods, there are an erie
sense of quit and tranquility

And the oceanfront is truly spectacular at is finest, rain or
shine
Sometimes you witness the most amazing things.
Like the apperance of the swan. It had been on
the prowl all day, willing us to go away from the beach.
It was apperant that it had laid its nest close and was
adamant in protecting it. So, it did not like it when we
went into the ocean, it came closer and closer until we
just had to leave. It brushed its wings and gave us
several warnings, so we opted to leave. We did get
some good pictures and we named the swan, The Evil
swan. For something so beautiful, it sure is very scary.

Norwegian summertime is very strange. One day it pours rain, the other its shining sun and the third it is lightning and thunderstorms. The beauty of it, is not lost on the Norwegian people. One day you see a sunset so beautiful it hurts your eyes, another day you sit drinking hot tea in front of the fire while the wind makes it almost impossible to go outside. A common trait for the people is that we adapt and make the best of every weather situation, as long as possible. These shots were taken during both rain and into the woods in the nighttime. I hope you sense the same as we when you look at nature in play, beautiful.

Testing: Youngblood Mineral Rouge

Photo: Beautybasket
Anbefales! Rougen får du hos Beautybasket her.

This time around I received the rouge "sherbert" from Youngblood Minerals. At first I was hesitant, as the rouge seemed to have a lot of shimmer in it. But when I tried it on I discovered that the shimmer blended into the skin, so it was more of a glow to it. What I liked about the product was the fact that it is so light, it melts into the skin, it gives a fresh summer look and it was the perfect colour (peach)for summer. Recommended! See the product here.

Very happy with the feature in the August number of the magazine Costume. The pictures was taken by the lovely photographer, Renate in Kirkeristen. Which is one of my favorite places in Oslo, not only for its location but also the vintage jewelry store Esaia Solberg and the best Italian restaurant in town, Balthazar. The feature is about my style, my favorite vintage buys and what items I wish for this summer and siljesfashion. Hope you like it, even though you cant read the text.

A New Favorite

Its pink, it has polkadots and it is the perfect
summer dress. Whats not to like?

Dress: Koola anna

Flowers in bloom: Priceless

Jacket: H&M
Shoes: Bianco
Flower: H&m
Dress: Koola anna
So, I got a new favorite for summer. Its no secret that I love pink, polkadots and dresses. This dress has it all and is from the Swedish brand Koola anna. Its a girls dress, withouth being to much. I will wear it for lazy summer days spent in the sun, and with a jean jacket for evening barbecues. Sorry about not posting everyday. I currently am enjoying my summer vacation and that requires some travelling and no internet connection at some days. Tomorrow I hope to post the feature from Costume (just waiting for some pictures). Have a great day everyone!

Spotlight

First try without someone behind the camera,
please forgive me. Lets just say I prefer to
have a photographer.

Jumpsuit: French Connection(bought in Paris)
Shoes: Nine West
Sunnies: Gina Tricot
Bracelets: Vintage

I am still on vacation, so slept in this morning. Then an old colleague of mine called to see if I wanted to do a piece on Fall Fashion for TVNorges Spotlight, a TVshow which highlights celebrities and fashion. Of course I jumped at the chance and tonight you can see me on Spotlight, TVNorge at 1820 and 2345. Since I have been a tvreporter for so long, I really didnt think of it as my first TV apperance untill a friend of mine said "But honey, it is your TV debut, so enjoy it!" I just want to thank you all for your support, and for stopping by my blog.
My advice for Fall Fashion are to many to sum up in this post alone(more posts to come!). But I have aleady started to collect pieces like velvet blazers, vintage floral dresses with purple, black or green shades, lacetops and dresses, widelegged jeans, and leather jackets. My little interview with Costume(the Norwegian fashion magazine) is due monday and I just got a copy of the magazine, and it looks great! Pictures to come.

Letters from Paris-Last Day

Shoes:Havaianas
Sunnies: Oliver Peoples
Probably the hottest day during our trip.
So, I opted for a lighweight dress and flip flops.

On our last day in Paris, we went to Gallery
Lafayette. I still had hope as to find some of
the things on my shopping list. And....

There it was, the Gucci bag I have lusted
after, on a 50 percent sale off. Heaven indeed!
Needles to say, I was very happy.

Not only was the mall huge, they had all
high end designer items, a floor of handbags,
a floor of shoes and tons of great stuff. Since
it was sales, there was very limited sizes,
however I did end up with some great deals.

Shopping:
-Gucci handbag
-French Connection jumpsuit
-Ombre dress
-Pink leather filofax
-Pink leather passportholder
Not all the things that I wanted, but I was
very happy with what I got.

The champagne bar. A nice thouch. Since
we were on a time limit, I opted to shop.
However, they did have my favorite Rose Moet ..
Todays tip: If you shop at department store,
make sure they fill out the tax form for you,
it will go so smothly at the airport. I think you
have to spend over 180 euros in a shop to get
back any taxes. Its worth it though, I get back
around 100 on my spendings.
Very sad to go. I had such an amazing time.
I could have stayed for many more days.
Thank you for all your lovely comments, I
hope I have inspired you with our journey.

Dress: H&M

in the upcoming days.

Tax free shopping:
-Biotherm all about eyes

-Biotherm age fitness facial cream
-Yves Saint Laurent fuschia lipstick 128

-While waiting for plane I picked up all
my favorite magazines and I am still
working through them now, back home. So, it
was a good thing I did not spend my budget, beacuse
now I have even more money towards my fall wardrobe...

Au revior Paris! Cant wait to see you again.

Letters from Paris-Day 4

On our fourth day in Paris, we went to see
Notre Dame. And yes, thats me in the DVF
dress. It was soooo hot, I was very happy
I choose this dress. Its my "hero" dress, it
saves me no matter what occasion.

Very early, before it got hot, in front of YSL.
Always bring a cardigan or Pashmina to stay
warm and cover your shoulders if you go into
a church.
Dress: Diane von Furstenberg
Cardigan: Lindex
Sunnies: Sean John

Sainte-Chapelle. Incredible beautiful church
on the outside

as well on the inside. The glass paintings were amazing,
I have never seen anything quite like it.

Musee du Louvre. Remember the movie about the
DaVinci Code? Kind of like it. To me this museum was
much better on the outside than the inside. In a minute
you will see why.

Mona Lisa. To me, art is something you study in awe and
silence. I prefer it when its few people and you can get lost
in the moment. Unfortunately, too see this, you would have to
endure THIS

freaking sircus. Crazy people pushing to get in front. To
me that was waay to much, so I went shopping while
the others went through the rest of the museum.

First stop, Shoe Bizz 42 rue du dragon in st germain-des-pres.
I walked from Louvre, a good 15 minute walk.
Cheap good stuff, and sales.

Next stop the vintage store Killiwatch.
I am sorry to say I forgot to take a picture,
However, it was huge, but I was very let
down by its contents. In a vintage guide I read
they had vintage high end designers like Dior,
Gucci and Chanel. Not true. And their dresses
was way overpriced. I did not find a single
thing in this store.

So off to Free P star, another vintage store with great
reviews. Tons of vintage dresses for 10 euros each. Not
a bad price, considering were I just was. They also had
tons of handbags, belts, shoes and other stuff in this tiny
store. However, like i said before its was soooo hot and
crowded. I found 5 dresses i liked, but NONE in my size.
By now, my frustration was evident. Of course, in the window
hangs the most beautiful white & black polkadot dress-in a size
small- would they let me buy it, NO.

On the way to find the Metro I stumbled across this store.
It was pink(!) and beautiful. Both the dresses in the picture
were lovely, but not my size. Found some very nice shoes,
but nothing in my size.

Yves Saint Laurent was closed, however there was tons
to admire in the window...

Off to Christian Louboutin we went.
Finally, I was going to get a pair of those red soled darlings.
Imagine what Dorothy felt slipping into those red shoes,
and add that up times ten. Thats how hard my heart was
beating. On top of that they had a sale! I died and came to
shoe heaven....

Now imagine how I feel when they say they dont have
any pairs that I want in my size. I wanted either a nude,
black or snakeskin heel. Why? Those go with everything.
SOLD OUT seems to be the theme of today.

Iris. Another good shoe store on the same street. Marc
Jacobs, Chloe, something for everybody. Nothing that
wowed me though, still in shock after the CL experience.
After this, we hit a few more stores, but I must confess,
I had enough. I never buy to buy, I need to find things I love.
Besided, It was sooo hot and my feet were swollen,
so we took the metro back and enjoyed life with a glass of
wine at a Brasserie close to our hotel.
Shopping List:
-Christian Louboutin shoes. Nude or black.
-White blazer, preferably vintage
-Vintage dresses, scarves, shoes and clutches
-Chanel, Balenciaga or Prada shoes
-Gucci or Chanel handbag
-Shoes in general

What I ended up with:
-1 pair of shoes

However, my American friend decided to
give me all the things she had brought for me
like a dress and a top from Forever 21 and these
Old Navy shoes, that I got the day before. Let me
tell you it cheered me up!

Ready to dine & wine at Chez Andre`. We
took the Metro, no more walking this day.

Cardigan: Vintage
Skirt and top: H&m
Handbag: Zara
Bracelet: Vintage
Shoes: Old Navy
Were we had Rose Pommery champagne
and toasted to our last night in paris.

Yes, it was as good as it looks.
Tomorrow: Shopping at Galeries Lafayette. Finally, I scored
some shopping!
Todays tip: The local or house wine is usually excellent.
Order a glass to go with your preference of cheese, divine.

Letters from Paris- Day 3

So, on the third day I forgot to take an outfit shot during
the day. Thats why I am starting with what I was wearing
for dinner later on.
Right outside our hotel on Avenue de Suffren. We had so
much fun doing this, people stopped and stared and
we were just goofing around.

Jacket: Zara
Skirt: H&M
Tshirt: Gina Tricot
Belt: H&M
Shoes: Nine West
Handbag: Zara
Mood and Scenery: Priceless

The Metro. The heart of the city, as it will
take you anywere, and save your swollen
feet. Remember to get that Metro card.

Filled with expectations and ready to go.
Invalides

On day three we started out with the Invalides.
Remember to get the museum passes if you are
seeing more than three. It gets you in front of
every line and you save sooo much time, its
totally worth it.
For me it was enough to see it on the outside, so
I will leave you with a detail from the inside, while I
spent two blissfull hours at the flea market two blocks
away, which I accidentially stumbled across.
Flea Market

On a sidestreet to the Invalides, I saw many
people and tons of antiques. My heart raced
and I shopped the biggest flea market I have
ever seen for 2 hours.
My advice for flea market shopping:
-Hassle over price. Its never the price they say, they
expect you to step up to the game.
-Come early or late, depending on what you are looking
for.
-Be prepared to fight over items you really want.
-Never put things down if you want it, if someone picks
it up its gone.
-Be careful of smells like smoke in furniture & clothing, it
will never completely disappear.
-Know your pieces. Then you will not pay more than its worth.

My mental shopping list:
-I collect china from the 1920s, 40s and 70s.
-Glasses and vases from all periods
-Perfume bottles,
-espresso sets,
-candle holders
-old posters.
-Clothing,
-hatboxes
-shoes, scarves, handbags and jewelry.
This flea market had it all, except clothing. Beautiful
furniture, glasses, dishes, jewelry, scarves and all other
things you can imagine.
